NOVEMBER AT SOLGAVE · NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

Last Friday, seven homes needed a different dog walker at short notice. Our team covered every visit within the time windows those families had given us.

That morning is a practical example of something we talk about often at Solgave. When you arrange dog walking or pet sitting, you are trusting someone to show up for an animal who depends on them. You deserve to understand what happens if that person suddenly cannot be there.

Car trouble, illness, and family emergencies happen to thoughtful, experienced caregivers. Over more than a decade of caring for pets in Northwest Arkansas, we have learned to prepare for those interruptions before they happen. The person coming through your door has a team behind them.

Seven homes. A shared plan.

The walkers already in the field adjusted their routes. We checked the individual visit windows, redistributed the assignments, and kept the day moving. Every affected home received care within its agreed window.

A familiar sitter with people ready to help

One traveling family came to us after an emergency left their regular independent sitter unable to cover a trip. They loved their sitter. What they needed was a dependable way to handle the unexpected without rebuilding their pet-care arrangements just before leaving.

We understand both sides of that experience. In Solgave’s early years, I was often the person doing nearly everything. I know what it feels like when a personal emergency and a full schedule collide. Building a team has given us more ways to respond and more people who can help.

We aim to keep a familiar primary sitter with your household. We also prepare other qualified caregivers to provide coverage. When a change is needed, management coordinates the handoff and communicates with you. You have a relationship with the people visiting your pets and with Solgave as a whole.

How we prepare someone to step into your home

For regular midday families, we work to get a second team member familiar with the home early, generally within the first 30 days. A household that needs extra reassurance or has more involved handling may call for an in-person shadow visit. That training is an investment we make in coverage.

We are also building a private library of short household walkthroughs and practical notes. A video can show a backup walker where the harness hangs, how it fits, where the water bowls are, and what the usual departure routine looks like. Those details help an experienced caregiver picture the visit before arriving.

Videos complement the care instructions in Time to Pet. They help us prepare for straightforward homes, while anxious dogs and more complicated routines may still need an introduction with someone familiar. We consider the animal and the assignment when deciding how to prepare coverage.

Your regular caregiver

Learns the routines and builds a relationship with your pets.

Prepared backup coverage

Reviews household instructions and completes an introduction or walkthrough as appropriate.

Management support

Coordinates changes, watches the flow, and helps resolve problems.

Home access is part of the backup plan

A backup sitter needs a reliable way to enter your home. If the only key is with someone whose car has broken down, finding another caregiver solves only part of the problem.

That is why we are moving all clients to home-based access by January 1, 2027. A door code, garage code, or secure lockbox with a key kept at the property gives our assigned team a way to reach your pets without retrieving a key from an unavailable sitter. We agree on the arrangement with you and keep access instructions in Time to Pet.

Careful entry and departure routines matter just as much as feeding and walking. We want a caregiver to know how to get in, what needs to be secured, and how to leave your home as instructed.

Another set of eyes on the day

Kailan has been part of Solgave for more than four years. Alongside her work as our lead sitter in the field, she is beginning to help me with management and communication. As we build that role, there will be more opportunities for her to help watch the schedule and support our caregivers.

Time to Pet connects visit timing, pet profiles, messages, photographs, and reports. We can review how the day is progressing and follow up when something needs attention. Your individual visit window matters, and a sitter should communicate if a delay may affect it.

For you, those reports also mean a glimpse into your animal’s day. A good update tells you how dinner went, whether your dog enjoyed the walk, or whether your shy cat came out to say hello. You can see a fuller example of our reports and how our systems developed in The Solgave Chronicles.

A relationship that can grow with your household

Many families meet us through one or two midday walks each week. Familiarity builds with each visit, and when travel comes along, we already know something about the animals and routines we will be caring for.

Other families begin with a vacation. We help plan the visit frequency, overnight needs, home access, and details that will let the sitter do their work well. For an overview of visits and overnight care, our holiday pet-sitting guide explains what a plan at home can look like.

Caregivers’ schedules and lives change over time. Clear records, training, and management support help us carry that household knowledge forward. We want your family to feel comfortable building a lasting relationship with Solgave.

Let’s talk about your November plans

We have a few Thanksgiving openings for pet sitting and overnight care in Washington and Benton counties, along with openings for recurring midday dog walks. Availability depends on your neighborhood, dates, and care needs.

Overnight care is currently fully booked December 26 through January 3. You are welcome to ask about our standby list.

Send us your neighborhood, travel dates or preferred walk days, and a little about your pets. We will confirm coverage and discuss a plan with you.
