365 Days – How Can a Life Change in One Year
“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.”
― J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird
These blogs can’t be super long, or the entire concept would be impossible.
After part of my Workaway duties were done, which is walking these amazing dogs an hour up the mountain, I was struck by the notion I needed to write more, and to write more consistently.
While there are very practical needs to be met, we can still keep our dreams in focus. Even if it’s just half an hour or an hour a day we spend on that craft.
As I was just about to step back into the house, it happened. I saw a bird fluttering in the entry way. Making sure none of the dogs were able to get to the bird (one was very interested so I got him in his crate) I went back to the entry way to see where he was at and he appeared so peacefully.
Since I was just about to do a short video for this project BEFORE seeing this bird I grabbed my phone. It was so surreal and symbolic I knew this was not just another random coincidence. Not to me.
I had no idea what it meant at the time, but I observed a pigeon through the window along with my last flat mate, a pigeon that did not appear last year, but did two years ago. A symbol of home, maternal instincts. Lots of insights there. Something about 2015 had a deep impact and metaphorically there was no fruit to harvest.
The real seed was planted in August but it takes a bit of time for the seed planted to really begin to grow, ya know?
That’s why I want to start NOW and not back in August. 365 days, one year to see what can happen in a person’s life.
When one goes through an awakening…stepping out of the ash you are still burned and covered with some wounds initially. Some things need to heal, maybe a metaphorical leg was broken and is in a cast.
I shared some really vulnerable video blogs along the way, a few so raw, if you did not see the entire trajectory and my intent of wanting to chart PROGRESS it could have seemed alarming. I did it for selfish reasons, to see my growth as I knew from that point in the summer thing would never be like they were. I was never going back again…
What I was carrying was a deep longing for things I did not have, but I was far from the wherewithal to approach it right when I landed in Norway that December. Hindsight is always 20/20. And at the same time we need to be grateful of the gifts that come from these experiences, that gift is growth.
Today I like me. I really like me. It sounds like a cheesy Stuart Smalley Saturday Night Live skit…but it’s true.
And I sort of forgot that person along the way. The Jared beneath all the mistakes, and emotional wounds self inflicted, the self pity, the grief. And it takes awhile to resurface and work through all of that. Life is a process and long term changes, happen slowly.
So while I didn’t realize it at the time, even coming out of that burning home alive, the miracle moment if you will, I had lost all self respect, dignity, and more.
Yeah I was free, but not yet grounded fully if that makes sense. My body and mind and emotions and brain chemistry and so much more needed to level out.
So here we go. A symbol of so much was right there waiting for me when I got in. I felt a deep connection with that bird, and have with what I call Source for the last few weeks. A realization that I need to trust things will be okay wherever I go, whatever decision UDI gives, and that means finding emotional stability in the wake of nothing being stable around you externally.
This is the path of the gentle warrior.
“Pain is a relatively objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our psychological resistance to what happens. Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering. Resistance creates suffering. Stress happens when your mind resists what is… The only problem in your life is your mind’s resistance to life as it unfolds. ”
― Dan Millman
This is why I have to see it all as gifts. The mistakes, the resentments, the errors, they all show me something about me when I’m ready to see it as a truth.
Let’s see if my instincts about the coming year are right. I’d like to believe they have never been wrong, despite plenty of missteps, and if it holds true today than I predict one year from today I’ll have more of the things I wrote down today as “hopes” than ever imaginable.
“Blue Tit — The Blue Tit represents a loyal and faithful love. Remember the great things in life, especially, those that have been successfully completed. Since Blue Tits never fly far distances from their homes, the sight of them always denote good tidings to a sailor. It would mean that land is near. Blue Tits are also believed to carry the spirits of sailors who have died at sea, to their home in heaven.
To see a Blue Tit on your travel’s or to meet one in meditation means that partnership require strengthening. The totem is associated with the arrival of a brighter future. It is regarded as a creature of nobility, it also and has a rich and colourful history. The Blue Tit is a symbol of love, faith, hope and honour which are all positive attributes attached to this wonderful creature. To sailors, the Blue Tit is a sign of loyalty or luck. It is helps in friendship, honour and family.
The Blue Tit is one of the rare creatures, who place a significant value on the need to help others. What characterizes Blue Tits most is their instinct of partnership. Throughout their life, they will only have one mate, so when you meet a Blue Tit either in a field or as an animal totem – what comes to mind is the way in which one is dealing with relationships.
The Blue Tit allows one to remember the great things in life. Especially, those that we have successfully completed. In Celtic symbolism, the Blue Tit is seen as a powerful symbol. The male creates the nest, and then woos a mate to it through its singing. The Blue Tit also stands for a loyal and faithful love. These birds are known to always come back to their homes each year. It is thought that if a man has a tattoo of a Blue Tit he can be expected to return to his family. Since Blue Tits never fly far distances from their homes, the sight of them always denote good tidings to a sailor. It would mean that land is near. Blue Tits are also believed to carry the spirits of sailors who have died at sea, to their home in heaven.
The Blue Tit is a worthy example of enduring faithfulness and love for your spouse. They are monogamous birds and will only choose one mate in their lifetime. This will be the only mate until the bird’s life ends. Thus, this denotes that the animal totem is a loyal follower.
The Blue Tit is associated with happiness, the way it has a blue colouring and a long forked tail. These birds build their nests out of mud and they symbolize freedom, like the wide open sky, and eternal happiness.
A Blue Tit shows up as a spirit guide when…
- You need to be vocal about your feelings especially love.
- You must analyze loved ones.
- When losing your faithfulness.
- Accepting change.
- Enriching love and relationship.
Jung was instrumental in helping people understand the power of the mind, the nature of any ‘ism and how we can psychologically, spiritually, emotionally evolve.
I call it “The Great Work” and I’m grateful to be alive today, not just breathing but ALIVE.
